My fascination with the oceans began at a very young age. Having grown up in Durban, South Africa, I was constantly surrounded by water. I lived on the Bluff, the massive embankment on the south of Durban that forms the southern border of Durban's natural harbour. As such, my entire schooling career up until Grade 8 was spent on the Bluff, where I'd be able to see the beauty of the Indian Ocean on my drives to and from school. Throughout high school, which was no longer on the Bluff, my drives to school encompassed the scenery that was the Durban Harbour. Having been surrounded by it constantly, when the opportunity arose for me to specialize in this field, I couldn't possibly turn it down. I now look forward to becoming the best scientist I can be, collecting the best data I can acquire and making the most of the opportunities to add to the knowledge in this field of work.
For those who have made it this far, I appreciate the invested interest in my career as a scientist, I may start slow, but I'll build a head of steam and make my impact meaningful!
